Tartini Violin Sonata in G minor "Devil's Trill"

Tartini's "Devil's Trill" sonata is shrouded in mystery. Tartini himself claimed that it was inspired by a dream he had of the devil playing the violin. It is so technically demanding that there were persistent rumors in the 1800s that Tartini had 6 fingers on his left hand that allowed him to play all the trills. But despite being very challenging, there are several historical cases where violinists with the normal number of fingers were able to perform it successfully.

This composition can be played by 696,960 different combinations of instruments (really!).

This has the complete original solo violin part (including Becker's cadenza), with accompaniment by a quintet. The accompaniment was originally written for standard string quintet. But it also works well with several varieties of string quintet, woodwind quintet, and string orchestra, along with hundreds of thousands of less common combinations.
